Training Methods
The capacity development activities offered by CIFAL Findhorn combine traditional training methods (such as presentations by recognised experts) with an interactive approach based on a unique knowledge management technique (CityShare) and field visits.
The CityShare methodology aims to optimise peer learning between local officials. It consists of various processes of self-assessment, gathering and sharing of experiences and best practice. CityShare also provides a framework for the evaluation of current activities and offers a common language for information exchange. The enhanced networking and follow-up mechanisms built into the programme ensure the long-term sustainability of workshop outcomes. The resulting strategic action plans integrate international conventions into local development programmes.
This combination of approaches results in a significant improvement in the ability of participants to develop and implement sustainable solutions for the challenges posed by climate change.
Seminars can be arranged at a location best suited to participants or at the Findhorn Ecovillage. The Ecovillage site, which has a global reputation for being at the cutting edge of the sustainability movement, provides an excellent source for case study materials and on-site support facilities. The rural setting (easily accessible from Inverness) offers a unique opportunity for “conference fatigued” delegates to be stimulated and inspired by a different learning experience.
