Making Way for Scotland’s Hydrogen Economy conference is a practical response to the imperative for action to address climate change. Building on the success of Scotland’s Hydrogen Future conference in 2009 the event will bring together a unique group of key stakeholders from government, industry and the wider public sector to explore ways to accelerate the commercialisation of emerging hydrogen technologies and support the technical, operational, social and economic transition to hydrogen energy.
OBJECTIVES
- to deliver the vision for hydrogen and fuel cell development and implementation in Scotland
- to create ways for Scotland, as a key global player, to use hydrogen technology to meet its targets for renewable energy and emissions reductions as stated in the Scottish Government’s Renewables Action Plan (RAP).
- to present SHFCA-led initiatives and update information on hydrogen and fuel cell technology
- to address the opportunities and challenges presented by large scale offshore wind projects
- to focus on the actions needed over the next 12 months to implement the roll out of hydrogen and fuel cell products, services, delivery and deployment
KEY TOPICS
- Solutions needed to ensure the development of the necessary infrastructure for safe, affordable hydrogen distribution with maximum market penetration.
- The integration of clusters of hydrogen and fuel cell activities into a nationally coordinated effort that is big enough to compete on the world stage.
- The integration of private sector plans/actions with the Scottish Government’s Renewables Action Plan, its Key Actions 2009-11 and the Forum for Renewable Energy Development in Scotland’s (FRED’s) Hydrogen and Fuel Cell sub-group, HEG.
- Technological problems and potential solutions, the accuracy of market predictions and the variables which will influence HFC developments the most
- Development of a cost-competitive, low carbon form of transport fuel and optimization of the contribution of hydrogen to the sustainable low carbon transport policy, including municipal applications of HFC vehicles.
- Information update on Scotland’s Research, Development and Demonstration in hydrogen storage, hydrogen and fuel cells.
- Waste disposal, landfill reduction and the creation of green hydrogen to power industry, vehicles and homes
- Pathways to EU funding: an update on EU developments, market entry and EU support, including the Strategic Energy Technology plan, the Joint Technology Institute and HyRamp.
- Policy and Funding: profile public and private sector experience in North Rhine Westphalia and German federal government programmes and initiatives.
- The interdependence of clean technologies - those that can facilitate the creation of hydrogen and those which can be facilitated by a hydrogen infrastructure.
Participants will be given an opportunity to
- understand the business case for hydrogen and fuel cell usage
- find out about funding opportunities in Europe using Germany as a case study
- listen to OEMs discussing the deployment of hydrogen vehicles as stated in the 2009 Memorandum of Understanding
- participate in facilitated networking and interactive sessions with manufacturers, suppliers, customers and local government.
The Scottish Government’s Renewables Action Plan recognises the huge economic development potential of the Hydrogen and Fuel Cell sectors and it is vital that stakeholders meet in 2010 to develop and consolidate this potential.
The vision of the Hydrogen Energy Group within the Government:
To create a political, fiscal, business, educational and social environment within which hydrogen and fuel cell technologies can be developed to greatly enhance a robust and sustainable renewable energy economy in Scotland. From the Hydrogen Energy Group Report 2006
This conference will be particularly useful for:
- Policymakers, Government Officials and Local Authorities
- Energy Officers
- Sustainable Development Officers
- Planning and Business Development Managers
- OEMS and members of their supply chains
- Companies selling hydrogen related products
- Fleet Managers and all potential customers of hydrogen products
- Academics and Researchers
Come and be inspired by Making Way for Scotland's Hydrogen Economy. Learn how the shift is technologically feasible and economically viable!
