CIFAL Findhorn, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research affiliated training centre for Northern Europe, is a hub for capacity building and knowledge sharing between local authorities, national governments, international organizations, the private sector and civil society.
CIFAL Findhorn training sessions progressively address policy development, social and technical issues related to climate change. The unique inter-disciplinary and collaborative approaches used by CIFAL encourage participants to forge strategic alliances with partner institutions, so helping them to implement sustainable energy action plans.

Making Way for Scotland’s Hydrogen Economy conference is a practical response to the imperative for action to address climate change. Building on the success of Scotland’s Hydrogen Future conference in 2009 the event will bring together a unique group of key stakeholders from government, industry and the wider public sector to explore ways to accelerate the commercialisation of emerging hydrogen technologies and support the technical, operational, social and economic transition to hydrogen energy. Transition Towns has emerged only in recent years. It is a citizen-led model for communities to progress their own ways of reducing CO2 and energy consumption. Rooted in an understanding of the need to become less dependent on fossil fuels in an age of rising energy prices, the Transition Towns model offers practical ways for communities and councils to manage their own process of using or needing less energy; what is called “energy descent”. There are currently 12 fully-fledged Transition initiatives in Scotland but a further 40 that are in the process of becoming so.
